  1. iron and protein here is a list i found: http://www.vegetarianvegan.com/Nutrients_Vegetarians_Lack.html
  2. In theory, you shouldn't really need any if you are having a balanced diet. Plenty of fruit & veg, pulses and beans, bread and pasta and dairy products. + Lots of water. Good luck!
  3. Fern-C is a good supplement
  4. Agree with the 1st answer
  5. I don't take any. So, I'd say "none". You should be getting all your nutrients from the food you eat.
  6. vitamins A B B12 C D Fish oil Protein pills Iron pills those are the common ones that most vegetarians need to avoid getting sick
  7. See a doctor if you're worried. But if you haven't been sick you probably don't need them. Do you have a lot of energy? If you feel faint you may have iron deficiency. Otherwise you sound fine. =]
  8. I've been a vegetarian for 5 years and I take a multi vitamin, Vitamin B and fish oil. No problems so far...
  9. If you eat well, you need nothing more. I myself am vegeterian already 16 years and I 've taken very few supplements. I would recommend natural supplements, however, if you want to boost your energy levels. You can take spirulina tablets, bee pollen and acerola cherry capsules. This will strenghten your immune system and prevent many problems. As for essential fatty acids, take raw linseed oil. It is always better to go for the natural thing!
  10. Vitamin B12: Vitamin B12 is produced by bacteria, and some experts believe that vegetarians used to get plenty of this vitamin from bacteria in drinking water. Since drinking water is now treated with chemicals that kill the bacteria, it's important to make sure that you get enough vitamin B12 from fortified foods (like most brands of soy or rice milks, some breakfast cereals, and many brands of nutritional yeast) on a daily basis or by taking a sublingual B12 tablet of 10 mcg per day. Americans already consume seven times the amount of protein they need, hence the rampant osteoporosis and colon cancer in this country. So unless you want those dreadful diseases, don't take protein supplements and don't by into the myth that vegetarians don't get enough protein. You can get enough protein from whole wheat bread, oatmeal, beans, corn, peas, mushrooms, or broccoli—almost every food contains protein. Junk food aside, it’s almost impossible for vegans to eat as many calories as we need for good health without getting enough protein. By the way, I've been a vegan for over a year and I don't take any supplements and I'm fine.
  11. every one you can get your hands on
  12. Hey! Good vitamins to take are Iron (vegetarians are known to be anemic), B12 (can only get from bacteria in meat products), Iodine, and Calcium (in moderation... too much can not be good for you). Hope this helps!
